Hoover Memorial Garden

Appointed by Rajah Charles Brooke of Sarawak as the “head of all the Sarawak Foochows” in 1904, the Reverend (Dr) James Matthew Hoover (1872-1935) was the first Methodist Missionary who serve the Sibu Foochow community. He is also known as the father of development of the Foochow community in Sibu, establishing 40 schools and 41 churches along the Rajang Basin. To honour him, the Hoover Memorial Garden was commissioned in 2003 at Sungai Merah Town.
